Toshiba drives power countless laptops and Canvio externals. Mechanical failures — clicking, not spinning, undetected after a drop — are the cases we see most, and each is handled in our cleanroom.
We handle Toshiba hard drives, external drives — across current and discontinued lines:

Toshiba models & families
Toshiba makes desktop, laptop, and portable hard drives (its SSD business became Kioxia):
Canvio Basics, Advance & Flex
Portable externals — some models use drives with USB built onto the drive’s own board.
MQ01 & MQ04 (2.5")
Laptop and portable drives such as MQ01ABD100, MQ01ABF050, and MQ04ABF100.
P300 & DT01 (3.5")
Desktop drives such as DT01ACA100/200/300 and the P300 series.
N300 & X300
NAS and high-performance desktop drives.
MG enterprise series
High-capacity enterprise drives from servers and storage arrays.
Known Toshiba failure patterns
Widely reported, publicly documented issues we see in Toshiba recoveries. Most units never have these problems — but if yours does, here’s what it means for your data.
Native-USB Canvio drives
Some Canvio portables use drives with the USB interface on the drive’s own circuit board (model numbers with a "U," such as MQ04UBF100). A broken USB port or board can’t be bypassed with a SATA cable — the board must be repaired with the drive’s adaptive data.
Weak heads and slow reads
Toshiba 2.5" drives commonly fail gradually: copies slow to a crawl, the drive freezes, and SMART shows pending sectors. Stop copying — a hardware imager can read degrading heads far more gently than Windows.
Drops and stuck heads
Portable Canvio drives that were dropped while running often click, beep, or spin up and stop. These need cleanroom head work.

Toshiba recovery — common questions
How much does Toshiba data recovery cost?+
One flat $1,200 for the Toshiba devices we handle — quoted before you ship, with no per-gigabyte fees and no diagnostic charge. You pay $0 if we can't recover your data.
Can you recover an encrypted or password-protected Toshiba drive?+
Often yes, but you'll need the password or encryption key. Many Toshiba drives use hardware encryption, so a physical recovery only yields readable data when the correct credentials are supplied — have them ready.
My Toshiba drive isn't recognized — is the data still there?+
Usually. A drive that isn't detected most often has a controller, firmware, or mechanical fault while the data itself sits intact. Stop using it, don't reformat, and let our cleanroom recover it.
Do I have to visit a location?+
No. We're a mail-in service: confirm online, we email a free prepaid label, you ship your Toshiba device, and we return it with your recovered data. You only pay on success.
