Proprietary BeyondRAID

Drobo uses its own BeyondRAID layout, not standard RAID. Its drives can’t simply be mounted on a PC — recovery means decoding Drobo’s on-disk structures.

No more official support

Drobo’s parent company went through bankruptcy in 2023, and the devices no longer receive support or replacement units. Don’t move disks into a different Drobo hoping it will import them.

Never reorder or remove drives

Pulling drives, changing their order, or resetting the unit can make the pack much harder to reconstruct. Power it down and note each drive’s slot.

How much does Drobo data recovery cost?+

Drobo NAS cases are quoted per job after a free evaluation — the price depends on the model, the RAID configuration, and the failure. There's no charge for the evaluation, and you pay nothing unless we recover your data.

My Drobo volume crashed — is the data still there?+

Usually, yes. A crashed or degraded volume most often means the array or file system needs reconstructing, while the underlying data is intact. Don't reset, recreate the volume, or force a rebuild — power it down and let us evaluate it.

Should I try to rebuild the Drobo array myself?+

We'd advise against it. Rebuilding a degraded array stresses every drive and can trigger a second failure, and re-initializing can wipe the metadata needed to recover your data. Note the drive order, power it down, and send it for evaluation.

How do I send in a Drobo NAS?+
