PNY makes affordable SSDs, flash drives, and cards found in everything from PCs to cameras. Undetected SSDs and unreadable USB drives are the PNY cases we handle most.
Budget SATA and NVMe SSDs common in laptop upgrades.
CS2140, CS3040 & XLR8
NVMe SSDs for desktops, laptops, and gaming.
Elite & Pro Elite Portable SSD
USB portable SSDs.
Attaché, Turbo & Duo-Link
USB flash drives, including dual-connector phone drives.
Elite-X & PRO Elite SD / microSD
Memory cards for cameras, drones, and phones.
Known PNY failure patterns
Widely reported, publicly documented issues we see in PNY recoveries. Most units never have these problems — but if yours does, here’s what it means for your data.
Budget SSDs that vanish
DRAM-less budget SSDs like the CS900 tend to fail suddenly rather than gradually — working one day, undetected the next — usually from controller or firmware failure. The NAND typically still holds the data.
Changing components
Budget SSD lines often change controllers and NAND across production runs under the same model name, so the exact hardware has to be identified before recovery begins.
Monolithic flash drives and cards
Small Attaché drives and microSD cards are typically monolithic — one sealed package. When they fail, recovery means reading the memory through microscopic test points.

PNY recovery — common questions
How much does PNY data recovery cost?+
One flat $1,200 for the PNY devices we handle — quoted before you ship, with no per-gigabyte fees and no diagnostic charge. You pay $0 if we can't recover your data.
Can you recover an encrypted or password-protected PNY drive?+
Often yes, but you'll need the password or encryption key. Many PNY drives use hardware encryption, so a physical recovery only yields readable data when the correct credentials are supplied — have them ready.
My PNY drive isn't recognized — is the data still there?+
Usually. A drive that isn't detected most often has a controller, firmware, or mechanical fault while the data itself sits intact. Stop using it, don't reformat, and let our cleanroom recover it.
Do I have to visit a location?+
No. We're a mail-in service: confirm online, we email a free prepaid label, you ship your PNY device, and we return it with your recovered data. You only pay on success.
