ASUS models & families

ZenBook & VivoBook

Consumer laptops — mostly NVMe SSDs, with soldered eMMC storage on some budget models.

ROG & TUF Gaming

Gaming laptops and desktops, some with two NVMe SSDs configured in RAID 0.

ExpertBook

Business laptops, frequently BitLocker-encrypted.

ASUS desktops & all-in-ones

Desktops with SATA and NVMe drives.

Known ASUS failure patterns

Widely reported, publicly documented issues we see in ASUS recoveries. Most units never have these problems — but if yours does, here’s what it means for your data.

RAID 0 on dual-SSD gaming laptops

Some ROG laptops have shipped with two SSDs striped in RAID 0 through Intel RST. If either SSD fails, the whole volume is lost to Windows — recovery means imaging both and rebuilding the stripe.

Intel VMD and "missing" drives

Newer ASUS laptops use Intel VMD. The Windows installer may not see the SSD without the RST driver — that doesn’t mean the drive is empty or dead. Don’t delete partitions to "fix" it.

Soldered eMMC on budget models

Some low-cost VivoBook and E-series laptops use eMMC storage soldered to the board. Recovery requires reading the chip on or off the board.

Device encryption

Windows 11 often enables device encryption automatically when you sign in with a Microsoft account. You’ll need the BitLocker recovery key from your account.

ASUS recovery — common questions

How much does ASUS data recovery cost?+
One flat $1,200 for the ASUS devices we handle — quoted before you ship, with no per-gigabyte fees and no diagnostic charge. You pay $0 if we can't recover your data.
Can you recover an encrypted or password-protected ASUS drive?+
Often yes, but you'll need the password or encryption key. Many ASUS drives use hardware encryption, so a physical recovery only yields readable data when the correct credentials are supplied — have them ready.
My ASUS drive isn't recognized — is the data still there?+
Usually. A drive that isn't detected most often has a controller, firmware, or mechanical fault while the data itself sits intact. Stop using it, don't reformat, and let our cleanroom recover it.
Do I have to visit a location?+
No. We're a mail-in service: confirm online, we email a free prepaid label, you ship your ASUS device, and we return it with your recovered data. You only pay on success.
