Dead Phone Data Recovery (Logic Board Failure)

A phone that won't power on, won't charge, or gets warm without ever starting usually has a fault on its logic board, the main circuit board that also holds your data. Because modern iPhones and Android phones encrypt their storage with keys tied to that board, recovery means repairing the original board enough to boot and unlock it with your passcode. We do that for one flat $1,200 with free prepaid shipping, and you pay nothing if we can't recover your data.

Signs of phone logic board failure

  • •Completely dead: no screen, no vibration, no charging indicator
  • •No response when connected to a charger or a computer
  • •Gets warm while plugged in or in a pocket, but never turns on
  • •Shows the logo for a moment, then shuts off
  • •Died after a drop, liquid exposure, or a damaged or off-brand charger
  • •A new battery or screen didn't bring it back

What’s actually happening

A phone's logic board holds the processor, the power-management circuits, and the storage chip where your photos, messages, and app data live. When a component on the board fails, such as a power-management chip, a shorted capacitor, or part of the charging circuit, the phone may draw power and get warm without starting, or show no sign of life at all. Drops, liquid exposure, cracked solder joints, and faulty chargers are common causes.

On modern iPhones and most current Android phones, the storage is encrypted, and the keys that unlock it are tied to security hardware on that same board. That means the storage chip can't simply be removed and read somewhere else, and the board can't be swapped for a new one without losing access to the data. Recovery depends on getting the original board working well enough to boot.

Once the phone boots, it still has to be unlocked. Your passcode or PIN is what lets the phone decrypt your data, and there's no way around it. Without the passcode, the data can't be accessed by us or anyone else.

What not to do

  • ✕Don't leave it on a charger hoping it wakes up — if a component is shorted, continued power can heat the board and damage more of it.
  • ✕Don't let a repair shop replace the logic board or move you to a new phone if you need the data — the data is encrypted and tied to the original board, so a new board won't have it.
  • ✕Don't agree to a Restore or factory reset as part of a repair — erasing the phone removes its encryption keys, and the data can't be brought back afterward.
  • ✕Don't open the phone or attempt board repairs yourself — phone boards are dense and often layered, and a slipped tool or too much heat can destroy the circuits the data depends on.
  • ✕Don't keep cycling through chargers, cables, and button combinations — a known-good charger and one forced restart are enough to rule out a simple problem.

How we recover it

1

Board-level diagnosis

Engineers open the phone, check the battery and connectors, and measure the board's power circuits to find shorted or failed components.

2

Repair the original board

Failed components are repaired or replaced under magnification. On newer phones with stacked boards, the layers are separated and rejoined as needed. The goal is a board stable enough to boot and hand over your data, not a fully restored phone.

3

Boot and unlock

The phone is started, with a known-good battery and screen if its own are damaged, and unlocked with the passcode you provide. We can't bypass lock screens or encryption.

4

Extract and verify

Your data is copied off the running phone, checked to confirm photos and files open, and returned to you on a secure return drive.

Can the data be recovered?

Phones with logic board failures can often be recovered when the damage is limited to power or charging circuits and the areas around the processor and storage chip are intact. The outlook gets worse when the phone was charged repeatedly while shorted, when liquid corrosion reached the processor or storage area, when earlier repair attempts damaged the board, or when the original board has been replaced or discarded. Recovery also requires your passcode; without it, the data can't be decrypted. We'll know more after diagnosis, and if we can't recover your data, you pay nothing.

Phone Logic Board Failure — common questions

Do you need my passcode?+
Yes. Modern phones use your passcode or PIN to decrypt their data, so we need it to access anything once the phone boots. We can't bypass lock screens or encryption. If the passcode isn't known, the data can't be recovered.
Can't you just take the memory chip out and read it?+
Not on modern phones. The storage is encrypted with keys tied to security hardware on the original board, so the chip's contents are unreadable on their own. That's why recovery means repairing the original board.
Should I check for a backup first?+
Yes. Sign in to iCloud or your Google account from another device and see whether your photos and a recent backup are there. If everything you need is already backed up, you may not need lab recovery at all.
Can you also recover photos I deleted before the phone died?+
Usually not. Modern phones encrypt each file and discard its key when it's permanently deleted, so photos removed from Recently Deleted, or deleted on a phone that was working, generally can't be recovered by anyone. What we recover is the data that was still on the phone when it stopped working.
How much does phone logic board failure recovery cost?+
One flat $1,200 for a single device, quoted before you ship — no diagnostic fee, and $0 if we can't recover your data.
